Canyonlands 01 by samburley Canyonlands 01 by samburley
There will probably be several studies from here because Canyonlands is HUGE and AMAZING!! My favorite National Park to date.

With this one I painted directly over two pictures, so it's more of a matte painting concept than a sketch. I haven't worked that way in a while, or at least not so bluntly. But they're my own photos so it doesn't really matter.

Thanks for looking! :)

I'd like to know if you painted on the pics just as an exercise, like copying them, or you added something to them. And with two pics you mean like a pan or you combined two photos of different places to create a new landscape?
Anyway, I like it! Rock formations are great.

I'll try to write a blog post on it int he next week or so, in which case I'll show the pictures I used. There's plenty showing through from each photo (from the same place), but a lot of the rock structures are new or deformed with 'paint.'

So beautiful, but SO SMALL!!! :( Did you make it this small or is it just the size you uploaded it in? Because I would love to see it full size if it's the second option (perhaps a wallpaper download?).

Unfortunately I've had too many issues with people from DA stealing my work. There's generally slightly larger sizes on my website, but I rarely go bigger than 750 here. Sorry.
